Context & Goals
Greydata needed a modern, responsive website that would effectively communicate their services and value proposition to potential clients while maintaining a professional and trustworthy brand image.
Our Goals
Modern Design
Create a contemporary, professional design that reflects the company's expertise
Generate Leads
Ensure users understand what the agency is offering and their experience.
Performance Optimization
Deliver fast loading times and excellent Core Web Vitals scores
The Problem
Ineffective Digital Presence
The existing website, not mobile-friendly, and failed to effectively communicate Greydata's value proposition to potential clients.
Digital Strategy & Process
User-centered design and development approach with iterative testing and optimization
Research Methods
Conducted competitor analysis of local agencies, stakeholder interviews with leadership, and collaborative branding workshops to establish a clear direction. The research revealed that Greydata was competing with agencies that had stronger social proof through case studies, client lists, and testimonials.
Target Audience Insights
Identified the primary target as businesses transitioning from small to mid-size operations. Key pain points included an unclear service offering, an unfinished aesthetic appearance, and inability to compete visually with other local agencies.
Strategic Priorities
Stakeholders prioritized lead generation and brand credibility as the two critical business goals. The existing website failed to communicate Greydata's value proposition and lacked the social proof elements necessary to build trust with prospective clients.
Design Direction
Created a visual aesthetic blending modern, minimal, and tech-forward elements. Used Kintsugi (the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold) as inspiration, reflecting Greydata's philosophy of looking at problems holistically and providing elegant solutions for their clients.
Design Process
Used Figma for high-fidelity designs and Recluse for initial wireframing. Went through 3 rounds of design iterations, incorporating feedback from internal team reviews with the leadership team at each stage.
Design Constraints
Worked within budget limitations and aggressive timeline pressures, as Greydata needed the site launched quickly to begin marketing to prospective clients. This required prioritizing essential features and streamlining the design process.
Technology Stack
Built with Astro for its island architecture and excellent performance characteristics. Implemented animations using GSAP for smooth, performant interactions. Leveraged Claude Code for AI-assisted development with Cursor as the IDE.
Technical Challenges
Initially planned an interactive ink blob hero animation, but it significantly impacted performance. Pivoted to a matrix-like animation created through AI, with carefully adjusted speed, sizes, and frequency parameters. Also addressed AI hallucinations during the development process and ensured the content management system could scale for future needs.
Quality Assurance
Conducted comprehensive testing including WCAG 2.0 compliance for accessibility, cross-browser compatibility, mobile responsiveness across devices, and performance optimization. Used Lighthouse for performance audits and performed user acceptance testing with internal stakeholders.
Analytics Implementation
Set up Google Tag Manager for flexible tag management, Google Search Console for search performance monitoring, and Google Analytics to track and analyze web traffic patterns, user behavior, and conversion metrics.
Project Timeline
Completed the entire project in 3 months, from initial kickoff in early July through final launch at the end of September. This accelerated timeline required efficient coordination across all phases while maintaining quality standards.
Impact & Results
The new Greydata website successfully modernized the company's web presence, resulting in improved user engagement, better search rankings, and increased lead generation.
